The Spanish men’s handball team wants to make history at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The ‘Hispanos’ have once again lived through an extreme situation and, as we are accustomed to, have come out champions.
After suffering until the last second to get the victory that would allow them to pass to the round of 16, Spain won, again in an agonizing way, against Egypt in the quarterfinals and is already in the semifinals of the Olympic tournament.
The Spanish team was behind on the scoreboard throughout the game against Egypt. In the last ten minutes, Ian Tarrafeta and Alex Dujshebaev captained the Hispanos’ attack to take the match to overtime. In the extra time, the equality did not diminish and a save by Gonzalo Perez de Vargas gave Spain the pass to the semifinals.
The Spanish team’s opponent in the semifinals will be Germany. The German side eliminated hosts France in another high-voltage match, in which a mistake by Dika Mem led to added time. At this point, Germany and Spain will face each other in the fight for the medals.
